Here following are a few ways in which photos can be repaired, restored and altered. Examples of my work appear on all pages of this site.

If you would like advice, or have something particular in mind, please just ask.

If you are unfamiliar with computer photo editing programmes, it is well worth pointing out that your precious original photos remain intact, in the state they are given to me. What you receive back (carefully packed with your original photo) are copies printed on high quality photographic paper in a choice of either a glossy or matte finish. Please be aware that whilst any photo restorer can improve images, the finished product will always be dependant upon the quality of the original photo.

I recommend that you only display copies of your precious images in photo frames and that original prints are stored away safely for the future. Some basic tips on storage can be found on my 'Help Page' here.

Restored photos can also be placed on CD-ROM or DVD. All prices can be found on my page here.

Example 1

The original photo shown above measured just 1.5 x 1.75 inches and was significantly damaged.

The restored photo can now be printed out to a larger size and, if preferred, converted to black and white. (I have shown this image with its gentle sepia tones left intact, but of course the final look of any image is up to the owner's personal preference).

Example 2

The photo above has been restored to remove minor blemishes and the contrast and focus altered to give greater clarity. Mother and baby have been 'cropped' from the original and placed on a new background.

In the second version (to the left) the altered photo has been given a border.

Photos can also easily be annotated, e.g. 'Elizabeth and Edward, 1922' and this can be in variety of font styles and sizes and placed either in a border or on the photo itself.

Example 3

The original photo (measuring approx. 5 x 7 inches) has been 'cleaned up' to remove blemishes and converted from aged sepia to black and white.

An individual has been picked out from the group, his image enhanced and then re-sized to give a new photo measuring approx. 3 x 4 inches.

Example 4

A very old family photo has become badly faded over time so that some of the detail has all but disappeared.

The restored photo now more clearly shows the faces of the subjects and detail of their dress - all things that were becoming very difficult to see with the naked eye.

Example 5

This passport sized photo is faded and in fact completely missing a corner. I also felt that the subject looked somewhat 'lost', as if the camera should have been placed a little closer.

Original image size 1.8 x 2.3 inches.

Here the photo is fully restored - discoloration and scratches have been removed and it is now complete, having been given a new corner. The photo has been cropped and re-sized so that the subject now appears to take up much more of the picture.

New photo size in this instance is 3 x 3 inches.
